Shor House
Measured Architecture

Shor House

Measured Architecture

面积:330 m²

地点:Vancouver, Canada

Feature:

Project - Nestled on the picturesque Mayne Island in British Columbia, Shor House stands as a testament to sustainable architecture and material alchemy. Designed by Measured Architecture, this waterfront retreat transforms discarded wood into a compelling narrative of rebirth and resourcefulness.

The project's most striking feature is its unwavering commitment to recycling. Salvaged lumber from the site's original structures forms the backbone of the new house, while reclaimed materials from distant sources - including century-old railroad ties - weave a rich tapestry of history throughout the interior. This "zero-take approach" extends beyond mere reuse; it's an exercise in reimagining the potential of discarded elements.

Aesthetically, Shor House presents a modern interpretation of the classic saltbox form. Its Corten steel exterior, chosen for longevity and recyclability, contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the repurposed wood within. Large glazed sections frame breathtaking views of Navy Channel, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Inside, the absence of drywall in favor of Venetian plaster and exposed wooden elements creates a tactile, honest interior. The home's layout, inspired by Donald Judd's Marfa compound, emphasizes minimalism and practicality without sacrificing comfort.

Shor House isn't just a home; it's a manifesto for a new era of sustainable design, where the past is honored, and waste becomes wonder.
