Project - Nestled on the picturesque Mayne Island in British Columbia, Shor House stands as a testament to sustainable architecture and material alchemy. Designed by Measured Architecture, this waterfront retreat transforms discarded wood into a compelling narrative of rebirth and resourcefulness.

Salvaged lumber from the site's original structures forms the backbone of the new house, while reclaimed materials from distant sources - including century-old railroad ties - weave a rich tapestry of history throughout the interior. Aesthetically, Shor House presents a modern interpretation of the classic saltbox form. Inside, the absence of drywall in favor of Venetian plaster and exposed wooden elements creates a tactile, honest interior. The home's layout, inspired by Donald Judd's Marfa compound, emphasizes minimalism and practicality without sacrificing comfort.
