Nestled in the picturesque Banhoek Valley of Stellenbosch, South Africa, the Kliphuis for Capensis Wines emerges as a testament to thoughtful, site-specific architecture. Timber, sourced entirely from alien deforestation efforts on the farm, plays a starring role throughout the project. From the roof structure to the floors, walls, and even custom furniture, the use of this locally harvested wood creates a warm, tactile experience that echoes the natural world outside.

The low-slung, dark corrugated roofs that seem to float above the stone walls further exemplify the design's sensitivity to its environment. Large, retractable glazed doors blur the boundaries between inside and out, allowing the tasting area to flow seamlessly onto a generous stoep. This indoor-outdoor connection maximizes views of the Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountain ranges and enhances the wine-tasting experience by immersing visitors in the terroir that gives Capensis wines their unique character.
