Project - MRDK's Q8 Residence in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, redefines contemporary mountain living through a harmonious blend of architectural innovation and environmental integration. Completed in 2024, this 3,000 sq ft home nestles at the base of a hill within the Quartier 8 development, embracing its wooded surroundings with a design that prioritizes both privacy and connection to nature.
The residence's distinctive form, characterized by a series of staggered volumes with varied exterior cladding, creates a dynamic facade that resonates with the forest backdrop. White cedar shingles, warm larch vertical siding, and a board-formed concrete garden wall combine to form a material palette that is both diverse and cohesive. The home's east-west orientation, punctuated by a midpoint fold, cleverly addresses environmental considerations while creating unique spatial experiences.
MRDK's design excels in its thoughtful integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. The southern facade's generous glazing floods the interior with natural light and offers unobstructed forest views, while a screened-in porch and an exterior lounge with an indoor/outdoor fireplace and swim/spa extend the living areas into nature. Inside, the interplay of compressed and expansive spaces, from the low-ceilinged mudroom to the double-height living area, creates a dynamic spatial sequence. Innovative features like the hidden pantry and the children's bunk bed with a staircase demonstrate MRDK's attention to both functionality and whimsy. This project stands as a testament to MRDK's ability to create homes that are not just buildings, but experiences intricately woven into their natural context.
