Neville Park 住宅
Reigo & Bauer

Reigo & Bauer

Nestled in Toronto's east end, the Neville Park House by Reigo & Bauer stands as a testament to innovative residential design. This 2,000-square-foot, four-bedroom home ingeniously tackles the challenges of a narrow, sloping site, transforming constraints into architectural opportunities.

The structure's tall, vertical form echoes the towering trees of its surroundings, while its envelope, clad in grey diamond-shaped tiles, creates a cohesive volume that seamlessly integrates walls, garage door, and roof. A clever carved-out portion on the south side not only accommodates entry steps but also introduces additional windows, maximizing natural light without compromising privacy.

Reigo & Bauer's signature play with geometry is evident in the triangular facets of the roof, which connect offset pitch peaks diagonally from front to back. Inside, the architects have crafted spaces that feel expansive despite the home's modest footprint. Staggered windows and ceilings that curve and angle upwards create an illusion of height, while a central block on the entry level efficiently organizes the flowing, open-plan living spaces.

The interior palette is restrained yet impactful, with pops of muted green, dusty pink, and terracotta providing subtle contrast to the predominantly white surfaces and light oak floors. Throughout, the designers demonstrate a masterful manipulation of three-dimensional space, resulting in a home that is both visually striking and functionally optimized for modern living.

Reigo & Bauer

Since its inception in 2005 by Merike and Stephen Bauer, Reigo & Bauer has established itself as a formidable force in contemporary architecture and interior design. Specializing primarily in residential projects, the Toronto-based firm has cultivated a portfolio that seamlessly blends innovative new builds with ambitious renovations, each project a testament to their meticulous and collaborative approach.

Reigo & Bauer's architectural language is characterized by a striking modernity that doesn't disregard traditional vernacular forms. Instead, the firm reinterprets these elements through sculptural massing, creating a unique dialogue between past and present. Their designs often feature fresh takes on pitched roofs and other time-honored forms, eschewing the plain-box archetype often associated with modernism.

The firm's design philosophy is deeply rooted in contextual sensitivity. Whether working with an existing structure's history or responding to the surrounding urban fabric, Reigo & Bauer crafts architecture that is simultaneously modern and approachable, minimalist yet humanistic. This contextual approach results in buildings that harmonize with their sites, neighbors, and historical narratives.

Internally, Reigo & Bauer's spaces are a masterclass in subtle partitioning, creating interiors that are open yet carefully defined. Their restrained minimalism reduces design elements to their most essential forms, creating a quiet backdrop for playful touches and extended motifs. This approach, guided by the firm's leadership, results in unified yet varied aesthetic experiences that are uniquely attuned to each client's lifestyle and requirements.
