Nestled in New Westminster, British Columbia, the təməsew̓txʷAquatic and Community Centre stands as a beacon of sustainable design and community engagement. Designed by hcma architecture + design, the centre's most striking feature is its dramatic unifying roof, which seamlessly blends diverse programmatic elements into a cohesive whole. The building's form responds sensitively to its site, reconnecting with the historic Glenbrook Ravine and creating a significant south-facing greenspace that nods to the area's ecological past.

At the heart of the 10,684-square-meter facility lies a free-to-access community atrium, a civic living room flooded with natural light. The centre boasts a four-pool aquatic complex, fitness areas, gymnasia, and community spaces, all designed with inclusivity and accessibility at their core.

The project's name, təməsew̓txʷ, meaning "sea otter house" in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, was gifted by a Naming Advisory Panel, reflecting the playful and family-oriented nature of the centre. This name embodies the extensive community engagement that shaped the design, ensuring the facility meets the diverse needs of its users.
